Porn's got a bum rap. Given how much time we all spend lamenting our guys' love of it, that's really not very surprising. But what many women don't know is that there are many options out there made with our interest in mind. And watching porn with your guy? We're talking seriously hot stuff. In this excerpt from the book How to Tell a Naked Man What to Do, porn queen turned author Candida Royalle recommends her favorite woman-friendly films for your viewing pleasure.
Classics
This refers to big-budget adult features from the seventies and eighties. Women like them because they often have good story lines, and the women are far more varied and real looking rather than what I call the Barbie-doll look. Many Web sites, like gamelink.com, offer these now due to their growing popularity. Look for directors like Anthony Spinelli, Henri Pachard, Chuck Vincent, Robert McCallum, Radley Metzger (who directed the famous The Opening of Misty Beethoven) and Gerard Damiano, who's famous for the ground-breaking Deep Throat, but whose Devil in Miss Jones is considered one of his best. Summer Brown's Every Woman Has a Fantasy was also a favorite for a long time.
Bob Chinn
For a bit of silly fun, the work of director Bob Chinn can bring some laughs. He produced and directed the Johnny Wadd series starring the infamous John Holmes with his unbelievable 13-inch [penis]. (And it was that big; I should know. I worked with him in my acting days. Whew! That was something every gal should get to try at least once in her lifetime.)
Andrew Blake
Many women really like his work because of its high production values, beautiful people, sets and costumes. I find the sex still a bit formulaic and you should know there's an overabundance of "girl-girl" action, which puts some female viewers off. But he is quite popular with women.
Cameron Grant
I adore his very first movie, the original Dinner Party, which featured gorgeous people and very erotic scenes. It's also where I discovered Mark Davis, whom I used in several of my movies and is a real favorite with women.
Michael Ninn
Extremely high production values, strong plotlines that sometimes are rather bizarre, but be forewarned that the sex can be somewhat extreme at times.
VCA's Veronica Hart Series
Veronica Hart is one of several former adult stars who stepped behind the camera to create some of the better movies on the market now. Hers are more woman-sensitive than much of what's out there, with strong plotlines featuring strong women, but she makes no bones about the fact that she likes her sex hard and explicit. Her Edge Play, starring Marilyn Chambers, received rave reviews from New York City's female-friendly emporium, Toys in Babeland.
Adam & Eve's Ultimate Line
These movies are what I would call a "kinder, gentler" kind of porn, featuring dreamy stories and very pretty people. However, they too are still quite explicit and scenes often end in the obligatory facial come-shots.
Vivid Video
Known for high production values and strong plotlines, the work of former adult star Paul Thomas has garnered many awards, especially Bobby Sox. But these films are pretty explicit, and again, full of the almighty "money shot."
Shane's World
I can't vouch for this myself, but I know women who really like this sort of "gonzo for girls." Shane and her girlfriends are really in charge and clearly having a real fun time of it with the guys lucky enough to get invited in on the action. Explicit and heavy on "money shots," meaning exterior come-shots.
Nina Hartley's "How-To" Videos
These are a great combination of Nina's wealth of knowledge as a "sex educator" (a self-proclaimed feminist who graduated magna cum laude in nursing) and fun hot sex with her "friends" as they act out what she just "taught" them. Not big-budget extravaganzas, but intimate and hot nonetheless.
Candida Royalle's Femme Line
I would be remiss were I not to mention that my films are very popular with women due to their woman-friendly approach: story lines with real characters and issues, what I call sensuously explicit erotic depiction minus those overused money shots (you'll never see a facial come-shot in a Candida Royalle Femme movie!), light on genital close-ups, and the use of more "natural" women and often real-life couples.
